Apex Legends quit penalty to punish players who leave their teammates in the lurch
EA and Respawn's answer to Fortnite is going to get one of its most-requested features soon
QUITTING a game of Apex Legends early looks likely to land you with a penalty in the very near future.
Unlike Fortnite's traditional free-for-all, Apex Legends has players competing in teams of three -- which means you're relying on your team-mates hanging around and can be in trouble if they wander off.
As a result, the games many millions of players have been clamoring for an in-game penalty for those who do exactly that -- and it looks like their prayers are going to be answered very soon.
In the game's most recent patch, a missing piece of code meant that a feature the developers had been testing was accidentally activated in the main game.
This tracked when players left games early -- defined as before your character is permanently killed and can't be respawned -- and effectively threw them in a virtual sin bin.
While the feature was swiftly disabled it clearly demonstrated that the much-requested feature was already very much in the works.
The post explained that "if you're dead, you are free to leave," but that any time you quit in a state where you could still be revived by your team-mates, then it was flagged.
The result, at this stage, was being stopped from joining the queue to start a new game for up to five minutes on your third offence.
Respawn haven't given an ETA on when this feature will actually be rolled out, or what the actual penalty applied will be.
