MySpace accidentally deletes EVERYTHING uploaded to it before 2015
12 years worth of tracks, photos and videos covering the site's brief spell at the heart of online music culture has been lost
MYSPACE has admitted it has accidentally deleted millions of songs, photos and videos uploaded to the site during its first 12 years of existence.
MySpace was the first social network to reach mass popularity, and was the first place many now-famous names uploaded their music and had it heard by other people.
"As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from MySpace," the firm said in a statement.
"We apologize for the inconvenience."
The site, credited with launching the likes of Lily Allen and the Arctic Monkeys, was the most-visited site in the US in 2006, when its popularity peaked.
It had millions of users, with some estimates putting the number of songs lost .
While many of those songs will be found elsewhere, others such as early demos from those artists or from artists or never achieved commercial success may never be heard again.
Five years after its peak, the site was sold by NewsCorp (parent company of News UK Newspapers, publisher of Sun Online) for less than 10 per cent of the £437 million the firm had bought it for in 2005.

Tom Anderson of MySpace is still doing well off the site, with his travel photos garnering him thousands of followers on Instagram.
Many things have changed since the site's heyday, and some will no doubt be glad to see their early internet footprints erased.
Last year's Love Island stars were embarrassed when old MySpace photos showed up, as were stars of Towie.
