New MacBook Pro 2019 release date – new ’16inch laptop coming in April’
APPLE may be preparing a brand new 2019 MacBook model with a frankly enormous 16-inch screen.
Rumours about the top-secret device are flooding in thick and fast, so we've rounded up the latest news on Apple's next potential gadget launch.
New MacBook 2019 release date – when is it out?
Apple hasn't confirmed the existence of a new MacBook, never mind a possible date. However, Apple is a creature of habit, so there are a few likely launch windows where a new MacBook may appear.
For instance, recent reports have suggested that Apple plans to host an event on March 25, 2019, at its new Apple Park HQ in California.
Alternatively, Apple could debut a new MacBook at its WWDC developer event in June, or at the rumoured iPhone 11 launch event in September.
We spoke to expert analyst Dan Ives, of Wedbush Securities, who said the gadget would be "unveiled likely in the April/May timeframe".
New MacBook 2019 design and specs – what's new?
Until Apple makes an announcement, it's impossible to say exactly what changes a 2019 MacBook might feature.
The big rumour is that Apple will introduce one of its largest MacBook Pro screens ever, measuring 16 inches diagonally across, according to respected analyst Ming Chi Kuo.
This theory was mirrored by Dan Ives, who told The Sun: "The MacBook redesign is going to finally give many consumers want they want with a 16-inch to 17-inch screen that we are expecting.
"The larger screen and a number of enhancements around storage – with a few 'surprise' features which we are still trying to figure out – will be the focus when they is unveiled."
It's possible that Apple may broaden screen size while keeping the overall size of the MacBook similar.
Apple could slim down the bezel – the border around the screen – in a similar fashion to last year's new iPad Pro.
It's also possible that Apple may also upgrade the screen to 4K resolution, which would be great for pro users.
Apple isn't rumoured to majorly upgrade the core processor inside the new MacBook Pro, because the laptop range was only recently updated to Intel's 'Coffee Lake' chips.
However, Apple may introduce a supercharged new graphics card, designed to power hefty applications for photo and video editing.
Lastly, it's possible that Apple may add expanded storage and RAM options for power users who need more space and fast-access memory.
New MacBook 2019 price – how much will it cost?
If there's one thing you can guarantee about an Apple MacBook, it's that it'll be expensive.
Apple makes seriously premium notebooks that rightly command a high price – and the MacBook Pro is the costliest of the lot.
Right now, the most expensive MacBook Pro configuration you can buy will cost about £6,500.
That's a 15-inch model, so it's entirely possible that a 16-inch laptop would cost even more.
Of course, it's very likely you'll be able to get lower-spec devices for far cheaper, so don't take out a loan just yet.
In any case, Apple hasn't confirmed any official details about a possible MacBook upgrade, so take all rumours with a pinch of salt for now.
A new MacBook isn't the only Apple gadget on the horizon: we're also being inundated with news and leaks about the rumoured iPhone 11.
