Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 remaster FINALLY confirmed – but missing one huge part of the game
CALL OF DUTY fans have been begging for a remastered version of Modern Warfare 2 since the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One came out, and they are finally getting their wish.
PEGI, the European body that rates video games across the continent, has revealed that "Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 Campaign Remastered" will be rated 18, though it didn't offer any clues as to the platforms the game will be released on.
The title gives a pretty strong hint that, to begin with at least, we won't be seeing a remastered version of the multiplayer side of the game that proved so popular at launch in 2009 and in the year or two afterwards.
While this makes sense, given that the success of multiplayer games is dependent on the number of people playing, it's something of a shame given many view the MW2 multiplayer to be the series' peak.
The campaign itself was highly rated by critics but was also one of the series' most controversial.
The infamous 'No Russian' level pits you alongside terrorists during an attack on an airport filled with innocent civilians, and drew widespread condemnation.
The context of the mission -- that the player character is infiltrating the group to bring them down and is not required to kill any civilians to progress -- was often lost.
It was also skippable, though we don't know if this will be the case in the remaster.
It is also not clear of the remaster is simply going to be a graphical overhaul, or if it will see other changes or additions to bring it up to date.

The 18 rating, however, very much suggests that the controversial level will be included, as its inclusion originally was cited as one of the main reasons for the game's 18 rating after previous Call of Duty titles had been rated 16.
The news comes days after PlayStation revealed that the remaster of the original Modern Warfare game was going to be free for all PlayStation Plus members to download this month, and as gamers eagerly await the announcement of the next Call of Duty game.
Like the Modern Warfare titles, that next game is expected to be developed by Infinity Ward.
