GROUNDHOG DAY is getting an official follow-up after more than twenty years.
Unfortunately for fans of the 1993 Bill Murray classic, you almost certainly won't ever see it -- because it's being developed for PlayStation VR.
You will play as Phil Connors Jr, the son of Bill Murray's character from the movie, "trapped back home in Punxsutawney".
Phil Jr is condemned repeating "the day over and over until he learns the true value of friends and family," according to announcing the game.
It's being developed by Tequila Works, is being co-produced by Sony Pictures Virtual Reality and MWM Immersive, and will be released on PlayStation Store later this year.
Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son "contains a time loop mechanic with multiple branching narratives, as well as individual meaningful stories," according to Tequila Works boss Raul Rubio.
The story will have the same "dark humour" of the original movie, Rubio says, with a story that's had input from James Siciliano of Rick and Morty and Joshua Rubin of Telltale.
The latest sales figures indicate Sony has sold 3 million PlayStation VR units -- meaning as few as 3 per cent of people who have bought a PS4 will have the VR kit needed to play PSVR games.
If you want to get in on the action, you'll have to shell out £200 or more for the hardware -- and that doesn't include a PlayStation 4, which will set you back a similar amount.
On the plus side if you do, then you can enjoy some other fantastic games including the utterly sublime Tetris Effect and the great Astro Bot: Rescue Mission.

While it is not unheard of for PSVR titles to become available on other platforms at a later date, the fact this is being published by Sony makes this unlikely in this case.
The original movie, directed by Harold Ramis, made over £50 million at cinemas and many millions more from video, DVD and digital revenue in the years since.
Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son doesn't have a firm release date yet, but it is promised some time in 2019.
