How to get new iPhone update BEFORE everyone else – iOS 12.2 download trick revealed
APPLE'S next big iPhone update has landed, but only savvy users can get their hands on it right now.
We reveal the latest iPhone features coming in the iOS 12.2 update, as well as how to download it today – before everyone else.
Apple iOS 12.2 update release date – when is it out?
Apple's iOS 12.2 is actually already available, but only if you're an app developer or signed up to the Public Beta.
Registered developers can download the iOS 12.2 update .
For everyone else, you can sign up to the public iOS 12.2 beta . But remember: beta software is in a "testing" phase, and can cause severe bugs on your phone. Make sure to back up all of your files before upgrading.
Once thoroughly tested, Apple will roll out iOS 12.2 for every iPhone worldwide (how to update iPhone) – but there's no firm release date yet. Expect to wait a few weeks.
Apple iOS 12.2 update changes – new iPhone features revealed
The iOS 12.2 update is fairly large, which means you'll enjoy a decent number of changes to your iPhone.
Here's the official list:
- Air Quality Index for Maps – In Settings > Maps, you'll find a new Climate section that lets you toggle AQI (Air Quality Index) on. This will reveal the quality of air in a location, on a scale from 0 (best) to 500 (worst). Ratings of 151-200 are deemed "unhealthy", 201-300 is "very unhealthy", and 301-500 is "hazardous". At "Unhealthy", you should avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and at "Hazardous", you should avoid all outdoor activity.
- Safari flagging unsecure websites – Apple will now flag up websites as "Not Secure" in the Safari browser if they don't use HTTPS (a technology that encrypts data sent to and received from the site).
- Support for AirPlay and HomeKit on TVs – AirPlay support (which works a bit like Google Chromecast) is coming to lots of smart TVs in 2019. iOS 12.2 will add support for them.
- New devices – There's a working theory that iOS 12.2 will add support for new (and unannounced) Apple gadgets. For instance, found a setup screen for "Hey Siri" for the AirPods wireless earbuds hidden in iOS 12.2. This suggests a new pair of Apple AirPods with hands-free Siri support is on the way.
- Apple News in Canada – Perhaps the least interesting news for Brits is that Apple News is coming to Canada. Apple says the number of news sources available will be limited initially.
