Call of Duty: Modern Warfare release date, season pass and specialist details revealed

THE next Call of Duty game is going to be a reboot of the whole Modern Warfare strand of the famous franchise.

It's being developed by Infinity Ward, who developed first two Call of Duty games as well as the first Modern Warfare and its direct sequels.

It is the fourth Modern Warfare game from Call of Duty, but somewhat confusingly it's just going to be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

It is worth noting that the first Modern Warfare game was actually Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, so the titles aren't identical.

What's it all about?

It is a reboot of Modern Warfare, featuring many of the same characters from the 2007 game and its three sequels.

It's set in the present day, though, and the reboot means it's set in today's world, and none of the events of those previous games have taken place.

It's going to have a story-driven single-player campaign, told from the perspective of three different characters.

Part of the campaign will be from the perspective of a female middle-eastern rebel fighter, radicalised when the Russian military killed her father.

Another part sees you play as an SAS sergeant, with a third character yet to be revealed.

The campaign seems likely to cause controversy, with the launch trailer showing off a running gun battle with terrorists in London.

The game promises players "an incredibly raw, gritty, provocative narrative," and will feature action in a number of "iconic European cities."

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare pushes boundaries and breaks rules the way only Modern Warfare can," according to Activision.
