Bizarre WhatsApp bug is ‘deleting old messages’ and people are panicking
Your old WhatsApp messages could soon disappear from your phone
IF YOU have fond memories stored in your WhatsApp chats, you'd better back them up: The Facebook-owned app is wiping people's messages without warning.
The mysterious problem causes swathes of old chats to disappear from your phone, starting with the oldest first.
Some users report the glitch is killing off messages from 2015 or earlier, while others claim chats from last year are vanishing.
The issue was first reported to WhatsApp experts , who posted the warning to Twitter.
In it, a distraught WhatsApp fan explains that their messages began disappearing a few weeks ago.
The message reads: "Since last month chat history has been disappearing chronologically.
"Now the trend has changed, every morning I find one or two chats have disappeared.
"I have tried reinstalling the app almost five times and reset my mobile too but nothing has changed."
In replies to the tweet, dozens of other WhatsApp fans claimed their chats were vanishing too.
"Chats older than June 2018 are gone", one user tweeted.
Another wrote: "Some chats from 2015 of mine have disappeared randomly."
One heartbroken user said he was left in a panic after WhatsApp removed the first message he ever sent to a woman who is now his wife.
The change appears to only affect users on Android, with Apple fans spared the brutal chop.
A WhatsApp spokesperson told Sun Online: "We are aware of this bug and are working on a fix for the users we have encountered this issue.".
