Watch out for this hoax message spreading through WhatsApp
AN AIRLINE is warning customers of a new WhatsApp scam that draws you in with a bogus offer for free plane tickets.
The hoax message, masquerading as a note from Singapore Airlines, asks you to tap a link that takes you to a dodgy site which steals your personal data.
Singapore Airlines has taken to its Facebook page to warn people to ignore the message and its phishing link.
The airline has reported the shifty site and asked for it to be taken down.
It said in a statement: "It has come to our attention that there is a website that claims to be from Singapore Airlines, offering free air tickets as prizes, before proceeding to request personal data.
"We have reported the site to be taken down and would like to advise customers to exercise discretion when revealing personal data to unverified sources.
"Customers should be cautious of social media posts and phishing websites that appear similar to our official website."
The scam began spreading around WhatsApp last week.
The message reads: "Singapore Airlines is giving away Free tickets to celebrate its 70th Anniversary."
It then claims winners can get hold of their tickets by clicking a link included in the message.

This is not the first time scammers have used WhatsApp to spread phishing messages.
Earlier this month, the infamous WhatsApp Gold hoax began circulating again.
The fraudulent message first hit the service in 2016, and claims to offer you a special, hidden version of WhatsApp with extra features.
Users given a link through which they can download the "update" – but it takes them to a website riddled with malware.
