Huawei P30 Pro smartphone could trump iPhone with SIX cameras, leak suggests

THE Huawei P30 Pro will come with six cameras when it launches next year, according to hints dropped by Huawei's European boss, Walter Ji.

Ji explained in an interview that the Chinese company was considering putting four cameras on the back of its new smartphones, which in addition to two front-cameras on the front would make for six in total.

This new revelation comes courtesy of the German blog , which interviewed Huawei's Walter Ji last week.

Commenting on the company's plans for the new year, Ji explained that Huawei wanted its future smartphones to provide photographers with much greater clarity and resolution than they can enjoy with current-generation devices.

"Next year we will definitely see more innovation in the camera, and now we have three [on the backs of our phones], imagine four for next year," he said, suggesting that the P30 Pro – which is due in 2019 – will come with six cameras in total.

Added to this, Ji also suggested that each separate camera on its new phone will come with more lenses, revealing that Huawei was pursuing "ten times the zoom in consistent quality with the smartphone."

Given that the iPhone XS and the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 each have only three cameras in total, six cameras could very well make the upcoming Huawei P30 Pro the smartphone of choice for photography enthusiasts (it even beats the rumoured five cameras of the Galaxy S10).

Yet a ridiculous number of cameras isn't the only thing the successor to the P20 is tipped to have, because Walter Ji also confirmed in a that it will be compatible with 5G.

And speaking again of the benefits 5G will bring, Ji told Android Pit that the new wireless broadband standard will allow for incredible download speeds.

"With 5G you no longer need downloads, everything is available without delay from the cloud," he said, before warning that it will still take mobile networks some time to actually roll out 5G on nationwide levels.

Walter Ji's latest interview comes at a time when Huawei is also working on a foldable smartphone.

It confirmed this in September, when its deputy chairman Ken Hu announced at the World Economic Forum that the folding phone would be released in mid-2019 and would also be 5G-compatible.

"In our first [5G] smartphone we're going to introduce a foldable screen," he said.

Given that the P30 Pro will also be 5G-ready, it's tempting to conclude that it will be this foldable smartphone.

Unfortunately, neither Walter Ji nor anyone else at Huawei have provided confirmation of this, so we'll just have to wait until next year to find out.
