Netflix is testing a new mobile-only app and it’s HALF the price of normal deal
NETFLIX is testing a new mobile-only app which will cost around HALF the price of its normal deal.
The video streaming site said it is testing out the new prices to "understand consumer interest in a mobile-only plan".
It is currently only being looked at in Malaysia where the mobile only plan costs around £3 a month, compared to its basic package which costs £6.
The TV show giant has not yet said if it will roll out the new idea in other countries.
A spokesman said: "We are testing to understand consumer interest in a mobile-only plan in some countries.
"Generally, we try out lots of new ideas at any given time, and they can vary in how long they last and who sees them."
They added: "We may not ever roll out the features or elements included in a test."
Netflix already offers beta testing for users who want to try new features early.
Chief Executive Reed Hastings on Friday quashed speculation that the streaming video company would cut prices for the hotly competitive India market but other officials have suggested it could trial cheaper plans in small markets.
Research firm Statista estimates that Netflix has 132,000 subscribers in Malaysia, making it one of the smallest markets for the streaming giant.
