NITEMARES AND WHACKS

Fortnite Halloween challenges – End date, challenges, and how to destroy cube fragments

THE first Fortnitemares event was a little under a year ago, and one of the very first events to include the game's battle royale mode.

It's coming back for a second go-around this year, with skins, challenges and some HUGE changes to the game.

The first Hallowe'en event gave us some of the game's more charming and original skins, including Skull Trooper, which stand in some contrast to the overwrought and derivative current batch.

This time, Fortnite's Battle Royale mode is getting husks for the first time, as bits of Kevin the Cube will spawn Cube Fiends and Cube Brutes.

What are the Fortnitemares challenges?

There have been new challenges every couple of days through the week leading up to Samhain.

Individual challenges just reward XP, but doing the whole lot will get you the cosmetic item listed in the title.

First set (Fiery emoticon)

  • Deal damage with Assault Rifles or Pistols to Cube Monsters
  • Visit a Corrupted Area in different matches
  • Dance at different Gargoyles

Second set (Deadfire Spray)

Third set (Virulent Flames contrail)

  • Destroy Cube Brutes
  • Deal damage with Explosive Weapons to Cube Monsters
  • Search Chests in Corrupted Areas
  • Search Stages:
    • Stage 1: Visit Wailing Woods
    • Stage 1: Visit Fatal Fields
    • Stage 1: Visit Haunted Hills

Fourth set (Dark Engine Glider)

  • Destroy Elite Cube Monsters
  • Damage Cube Fragments
  • Deal damage to Cube Monsters in a single match
  • Visit four different Corrupted Areas in a single match
  • Destroy Cube Fragments
  • Complete all above Fortnitemares Challenges

Cube fragments appear around corrupted areas of the island and cause the zombie-like husk-things to spawn nearby.

Both the husks and the fragments can get destroyed in the usual manner -- take a gun and pump them full of holes.

What other Hallowe'en changes have there been?

Some Hallowe'en events have already started, with a number of spooky cosmetics including spider-people, vampires and, or course, the aforementioned Skull Trooper himself.

A couple of days of terrible poetry have teased Fortnitemares, which is sure to be the in-game Hallowe'en celebration, and some changes to implement the full force of the forced 'spookiness' must be on their way.

Yesterday's Save the World update revealed a couple of spooky additions to the paid-for co-op side of the game, and revealed that its much-awaited free-to-play launch wasn't going to happen until next year at the earliest.

Players will no longer just have each other to deal with, but an army of Kevin's husks to boot

There will also be a 50% off sale for Save The World access via Epic's Founders' Packs, so keep your eyes peeled for those and more Samhain-themed goodies in STW.

We'll update you with more on today's changes as we get it.

How many children play Fortnite and why are their parents worried?

While there is no exact figure on how many children play the game, data collected up to late January showed 45million people playing Fortnite across PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Many parents are concerned about the harmful effects that the long playing duration and violent content is having on their children.

A thread on forum site summed up concerns with one parent saying the game "promotes strategic thinking" but their child has started to "slam doors when he used to be pretty laid back".

In a This Morning  asking if parents were worried about the effect the game had on their children, 59 per cent voted no as opposed to 41 per cent who said yes.
