Warface shooter is FREE on Xbox – here’s how to get this Call of Duty rival today

The massively multiplayer shooter was developed by Crytek and is a port of the 2014 PC original

XBOX One owners can now get their hands on Warface, a free-to-play first-person shooter that's already popular among PC gamers.

The game is a multiplayer Call of Duty rival set in a range of modern environments, and it's downloadable for free via the Microsoft Store.

Developed by Crytek, Warface was first released for the PC in 2014, when it began winning over fans thanks to the variety of multiplayer game modes it offers.

These include such classics as Team Deathmatches and Battle Royales, as well as special formats like Plant the Bomb and Blitz.

Now Xbox One owners can experience such modes for themselves for free, and all they have to do is head over to the .

Alternatively, they can also find the game directly on their consoles, by scrolling right on the Xbox Home screen and selecting the "Search all button" in the Microsoft Store.

Warface supports online PvP (player-versus-player) multiplayer modes for up to 16 gamers, as well as online PvE (player-versus-environment) co-operative modes.

It also features dozens of individuals game maps, covering such territory as hangars, quarries, oil refineries, and luxury villas.

And aside from putting hundreds of weapons at the disposal of players, it lets them play as one of four distinct soldier classes: sniper, rifleman, engineer, and medic.

These are rendered using the powerful CryEngine, which gives the game's graphics an impressive sharpness and clarity.

However, as polished as Warface is in terms of graphics and gameplay, potential players should be aware that they will need an Xbox Live Gold subscription in order to access the game's multiplayer content.

Also, there are in-game purchases available, with players being able to buy such items as weapons, skins, and new maps.
