Fortnite cheats beware – Epic Games buys game security firm Kamu
EPIC GAMES today revealed it had snapped up Finnish anti-cheat firm Kamu.
Kamu already works on Fortnite, providing security services to help reduce the amount of cheating in the game's battle royale mode using their Easy Anti-Cheat service, and Kamu will continue to offer its services across the industry.
“Kamu’s team and tools have been key to building a vibrant Fortnite multiplayer experience that’s fair for all players,” according to Tim Sweeney, Epic's founder and boss.
Announcing the acquisition, Epic said that the Kamu team "will continue to expand its services in support of all customers and all of the engines they’ve chosen."
Epic, which didn't reveal how much it had paid for the Finnish firm, also revealed it was going to be using Kamu as a base to expand its own operations in Finland "for recruiting technology, engine, and online service developers".
Kamu's Easy Anti-Cheat service is integrated into more than 80 games, and has (probably unknowingly) been installed by over 100 million PC players across the world.

Kamu have goals beyond just stopping ne'er-do-wells in their tracks, though. As well as putting the kibosh on online hoodlums, Simon Allaeys, CEO of Kamu says that his firm's products "also help developers stay competitive by identifying player needs as quickly as they emerge.”
"Joining the Epic family is not only a childhood dream come true, but a huge boost for our mission to help developers create beautiful gaming experiences," Allaeys says.
Despite Kamu's measures, Fortnite has been associated with claims of cheating, fraud and fraud aimed at cheaters.
