Experts predict Fortnite ‘to peak by Christmas’ as gaming kit sales soar
FORTNITE isn't just making money for Epic Games, it's boosting the entire UK gaming market according to data from Argos.
They're reporting that sales of headsets that let eager teens shout obscenities at each other--and hear their opponents sneaking up on them--have seen sales increase a massive 65 per cent year-on-year.
But the fad won't last forever, according to Nick Hill, Head of Video Gaming Buying at Argos. “Based on previous gaming phenomena like Pokémon Go two years ago," Hill says, "we predict that Fortnite fever will peak this Christmas."
Gaming laptops are also booming, with sales up 62 per cent this year as gamers look for an option to play on the go.
Consoles have seen a big pick-up too, despite the fact we're nearing the end of the current generation with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two already on the horizon.
It's the Xbox One that's seen the biggest bump as Microsoft starts to reclaim lost ground in the eternal console war thanks to a 22 per cent jump that dwarfs Sony's 11 per cent jump and Nintendo's modest 9 per cent rise.

Fortnite wasn't the only thing to drive sales of tech this year, though.
The rise of 4K gaming, Netflix and the World Cup saw sales of 'jumbo' tellies over 60" across soar 318 per cent in 12 months to July 2018.
Meanwhile, Samsung phones were boosted by Love Island, with a five per cent bump in sales as a result of the phone being featured by the permatanned island residents.
