FORTNITE has players intrigued by the introduction of a giant purple cube that is the first clue on the way to uncovering the mystery behind season six.

The latest leak appeared to confirm that the cube (nicknamed Kevin by gamers) is evil and will lead to a catastrophic event. Now Kevin has consumed Loot Lake's central island, and is dragging it around the map! Here's the full story on the cube's appearance and journey so far...

What is the Fortnite purple cube and when did it appear?

The start of Fortnite season five introduced players to temporal rifts which, as the season has progressed, has culminated into a large purple storm manifesting from a rift in the desert.

On August 24, 2018, the lightening resulted in the appearance of a mysterious purple cube, that gives off residual energy that can cause harm to players if messed around with.

However, then the cube started to move and fans online have figured out that the cube would roll for just one turn, roughly every two hours.

In the build-up to the start of season five, Epic introduced a one-time-only rocket launch that resulted in the crack in the sky that signalled the birth of the Rifts.

Why is the cube moving, where is it going, and what is it doing with Loot Lake?

As September came to a close, Kevin the cube began moving around the map.

And weirdly, it's moving the island from Loot Lake around with it – leading to plenty of confusion.

Players have spotted the cube in several different locations, including Salty Springs and Retail Row.

It's possible that the cube may suck up even more objects or landscapes, although it's too early to say.

At the very least, the cube's locations appear to be randomised for now – with some players suggesting that its shifting position may even be the result of a bug.

What's inside?

Some enterprising Reddit users managed to break into the cube, and inside they found... not much.

It's dark, though it does have some funky lighting effects.

Given you aren't meant to be able to get in, the fact the inside is empty isn't too surprising.

Don't read too much into it - it's entirely possible it may unfold into a tesseract and open an inter-dimensional portal. Or not.

Is it a preview for Season 6?

A popular theory is the cube has something to do with the ultimate season five battle pass Road Trip skin, otherwise known as the Enforcer.

The tagline of the new skin is "Balance and Order must be Restored".

This has led fans to speculate that the cube is going on a "Road Trip" to restore balance to the Fortnite map.

Season Five's overarching theme was Worlds Collide which further speculates the cube will act as a portal between time periods and will signal major changes to the map come season six.

On September 6, 2018, a leaked week 10 loading screen shows Brite Bomber touching the Cube, seeing an evil, corrupted version of herself in its reflection.

After a month-long journey, the cube reached its destination at Loot Lake and rolled in, transforming the central area into a purple trampoline of sorts.

It’s likely that this isn’t the Lake’s final form, with the head of Fortnite developer,

On September 6, 2018, a leaked week 9 loading screen showed Brite Bomber touching the Cube, seeing an evil, corrupted version of herself in its reflection.

This is the first example of a fan theory that estimated that Fortnite would be introducing more dark/evil versions of different skins.

The 5.41 leaked skins seemingly confirm this rumour as both the clown skins contain evil counterparts. The new items are expected to be dropped within the next week.

According to several leaks, the skins are set to become more customisable during the new season as well, similar to how the Tomatohead Challenges unlocked added headgear for the skin.
