SONY'S 500 million limited edition PS4 looked like it was going to be special, and it doesn't disappoint.

The translucent casing means you can see all the gubbins inside -- including a massive two terabyte hard drive.

It may be a little hard to keep clean, as the shiny transparent case shows up dust and smudges if you so much as look at it wrong, but it's going to be worth the effort.

The front lights shine through the casing and show off that interior detail really nicely, and the striking copper accents on the logo and etched serial-number plate on the front set the blue off perfectly.

It even comes with a matching limited-edition DualShock 4 controller -- and that, thankfully, doesn't seem to be as much of a muck magnet as the console itself.

Pre-orders were up at £449.99 for the console bundle before they sold out in minutes - but you'll be able to get a matching headset for £79.99 and the matching DualShock 4 for £54.99.

The matching controller doesn't seem to attract dirt, dust and smudges quite as badly as the console itself

The console and controller will be out next Friday, the twenty-fourth of August - but you'll have to wait a little longer for the headset, which comes out on the eleventh of October.

To make sure as many of the sold-out consoles get into the hands of true fans as possible Sony has confirmed there will be more on the way through competitions in between now and Christmas -- so there's no need to pay thousands to unscrupulous scalpers quite yet.

We're going to try and get our hands on a couple to give away too, so keep an eye out in the coming months if you missed out on pre-orders and want a chance to nab one.
