GOOGLE just let slip when the Pixel 3 is arriving in the mother of all gaffes – and the flagship looks set to take on the iPhone X in less than two months time.
In case you hadn't guessed, the big G's next phones will land on October 4.
That's also when the past two Pixel handsets were unveiled, so the tipoff makes sense.
But more intriguing is the potential release date clash with one of Apple's next juggernauts, the LCD iPhone, which is expected a month after the OLED iPhone XS and XS Plus models due to supply chain delays.
And even more surprising is the source of the leak: Google itself accidentally broke the news via an ad on its FameBit site for YouTube creators.
YouTube channel first spotted the date and the listing was later confirmed via screenshots by .
It seems that Google is doing an Apple by pitching the phones to influencers who use its video platform in the hopes that they will promote it to their legions of followers.
The same thing happened last year with the iPhones.
Of course, there's always the chance that this ad is a hoax. But if that's the case, it's a pretty convincing fake.
We've reached out to Google for confirmation, but don't get your hopes up for a response – tech giants don't go around verifying rumours pertaining to their biggest products.
What they are prone to doing is inadvertently leaking those gadgets themselves.
For proof, you needn't look further than Samsung's series of Note 9 foibles, which included leaking the upcoming handset on its NZ website and following it up with a full-blown YouTube video.
However, this fresh Google gaffe doesn't offer any new info on the Pixel 3's specs. But that's where all the other online tipsters come in.
We already know the Pixel 3 XL will pack a notch at the top and a noticeable chin at the bottom.
The back will be glass, potentially for wireless charging using Google's rumoured "Pixel Stand", and it will pack 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
Both the regular Pixel 3 and 3XL are expected to tout a single rear camera like previous models.
And the phones will also reportedly be the first to be shipped with Google's new Android P mobile operating system.
