FORTNITE players across the world have been locked out of the popular game thanks to an update released for the widely installed Norton Antivirus software.
A new version of the hated bloatware elected to block Epic Games' popular title after mis-identifying one of the key files as a Trojan Horse program.
It is unknown why the software, known for , flagged the file as a security risk.
A Trojan Horse program is a computer virus that comes disguised as, or hidden in, an innocuous looking program.
The hidden code allows an attacker to compromise your computer and either take control of it, report back about the data on it, or just capture what you're doing and pass that onto a third party.
It was reported that the Fortnite file pakchunk0-windowsclient.sig was being incorrectly flagged as Trojan.Gen.NPE.2, which in turn stopped Fortnite from running after Norton kicked in to block access to the innocuous file.
Those still suffering from the problem can either restore the quarantined file using Norton's security menu and exclude it from future scans, or update Norton manually.
Concerned users looking to upgrade their security should not that uninstalling Norton, which comes pre-installed on many PCs, will NOT fix the problem.

This is because the uninstall process will delete the quarantined file, which Fortnite needs to run.
Once you have got the game working again, however, users are free to remove the software, which comes pre-installed on many PCs, and replace it.
