Optoma’s Be Sport 4 earphones have some big shoes to fill.
The 3s were excellent and a favourite to runners, commuters and gym-goers alike.
But with their sleek design, the BE Sport 4s are off to a bright start.
The brushed aluminium casing on the buds is back, but this time the edges are squared off into little cubes rather the cylinders of the BE Sport 3s.

I think they look good, although the neon-trim on all the accessories means they look much more at home in the gym than anywhere else.
You get a good range of sizing options, with four different sets of silicone tips included with the earphones along with a few different wings that help them cling to the inside of your ears.
The earbuds magnetically attach together so you can wear them like a necklace when you’re not listening, which helps make sure you don’t drop them.
The sound’s pretty good too. The BE Sport 4s lack a bit of bass, but they provided a nice clear sound without being too tinny; something that afflicts plenty of other bluetooth earphones.
I found they got plenty loud enough to drown out the creaking treadmill I found myself running on in the gym and the snug fit helped squeeze out most exterior noise.
Plus the 10-hour battery life meant I didn’t find myself reaching for the charger too often.
One of the issues I had with the Optoma Be Sport 3s was that there was a substantial lag from turning them on and them successfully syncing up with my phone.
But the syncing with the Be Sport 4s is almost instant and in testing I never had an issue with the connection.
In all, I’m a fan, but I have a couple of small complaints.
I find when I run with most wired bluetooth headphones, including the BE Sport 4s, the extra weight of the battery that sits just below the right earbud constantly pulls all the wire over to one side of my neck and makes the earbuds more likely to fall out.

The earphones solved this problem with a little clip at the back that you can attach to your t-shirt which prevents this wire slide from happening; something more earphone designers need to include.
The other niggle I’ve spotted in the BE Sport 4s is that the three buttons on the small control panel are right next to each other, meaning it’s a three-way lottery every time you go to pause your music or change the volume.
But besides these issues, the BE Sport 4s are among the best Bluetooth earphones you can get for the gym.
They’re not quite as good as Jabra’s Elite Sports, but they’re also substantially cheaper.
