Amazon's hugely popular Kindle Paperwhite usually goes for £109.99, which is a very reasonable price for this top gadget.

But for Prime Day, it's been slashed to a much lower £74.99.

That means you're getting a 32% saving – or £35, to be exact.

It's also the lowest price Amazon has ever sold this e-reader for, so you're definitely getting value-for-money here.

The Paperwhite is Amazon's best-selling Kindle, and with good reason.

It's very cheap, has a simple but attractive design, and offers basically everything you need for a quality e-reader.

The big selling point is the pin-sharp high-resolution display, which offers 300 pixels per inch – and "reads like printed paper", according to Amazon.

It uses a special type of screen that doesn't reflect light, so you don't end up with a horrible glare when reading outside. Even in bright sunshine, the words will be clear.

And the screen is linked up to a light sensor, so the brightness of the display will adjust depending on whether you're reading indoors, outdoors, or at night.

The other big perk is the battery life, which should get you weeks of reading per charge.

The device is hooked right up to Amazon's own online Kindle book store, which gives you access to a selection of millions of books and magazines – some of which are free to download.

There are more than 5.5million books available in total, of which one million are exclusive to Kindle.

What is Amazon Prime Day? Great deals you need to act quickly to get

Prime Day is an annual event over at Amazon where millions of products have their prices slashed.

This year, the event kicks off at noon on July 16, and runs right through until the end of July 17.

What's the catch? You need to be an Amazon Prime member. That'll cost you either £7.99 per month, or £79 for an entire year (which works out cheaper, at £6.58 per month).

Alternatively, you can activate a free trial and enjoy the whole shebang without paying a penny.
