This year's traditional Amazon Prime Day deals extravaganza will kick off on July 16.

Better still, it's the longest Prime Day ever, with Amazon flogging discounted goodies for an extended 36-hour run.

Deals will begin appearing on Amazon from noon on July 16 right through to midnight on July 17.

Last year's Amazon Prime Day lasted for 30 hours, but Amazon has lengthened the event for 2018.

Amazon Prime Day is an annual event where Amazon slashes the price of loads of products.

It's usually the best opportunity to get great Amazon deals before the Black Friday 2018 festivities kick off in November.

There's a big catch, however – only Amazon Prime members can enjoy savings.

You'll need to have an active Amazon Prime subscription to access any of the Prime Day deals.

The good news is that you can sign up for the 30-day free trial for Amazon Prime and still enjoy the deals.

But if you've used the trial already, you'll simply have to fork out for a membership.

  • Amazon Prime membership for £7.99 at Amazon UK –

That'll cost you either £7.99 per month, or £79 for an entire year (which works out cheaper, at £6.58 per month).

Amazon Prime memberships are a decent investment, getting you free one-day delivery, plus access to movies and TV shows through Amazon Prime.

Amazon Prime subscription – what do you get?

Here's what's included in an Amazon Prime membership...

  • Unlimited one-day delivery from Amazon
  • Unlimited movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime
  • TV shows and movies streamed in HD, Ultra HD and HDR (where available)
  • Secure unlimited photo storage
  • Early access to Amazon's Lightning Deals
  • Access to Amazon Music – two million songs, thousands of playlists and stations, and on-demand, ad-free streaming
  • Prime Reading, which gives you a free rotating selection of books and magazines to enjoy

It's also possible that Amazon will discount Prime membership in the run-up to Prime day, so be on the look-out for that.

"Prime members will enjoy a day and a half of epic deals, with 36 hours to shop more than one million deals across the globe," said Amazon's Jeff Wilke.

"More than 100million Prime members around the world will find our best Prime Day celebration yet."

So what sort of discounts can you expect?

For a start, there'll be some heavy price-cutting on Amazon's own line-up of gadgets.

That includes the Amazon Echo smart speakers, Fire TV devices, Fire tablets, and Kindle e-book readers.

But you'll also likely see deals across the board from third-party companies, flogging TVs, electric toothbrushes, drinks, games, fashion and more.

There's even a chance that Amazon's rivals will launch summer sales of their own in a bid to compete. So keep your eyes peeled!
