Next Call of Duty from Infinity Ward WILL have single-player campaign despite Black Ops IV abandoning it
FANS who were outraged by the news that Call of Duty: Black Ops IV was ditching the single-player campaign entirely finally have a reason to be cheerful; the next iteration of the storied franchise looks like it will bring the feature back.
, the studio responsible for creating the Call of Duty franchise and some of its best-loved games, reveals they're looking for a temporary "narrative scripter" for an upcoming "next-gen" game.
The ideal person will have a "broad understanding of single player game design", and should expect to work on "a wide variety of player experiences – from combat to set-pieces".
Infinity Ward's Call of Duty games have been known since the dawn of the series for the epic set-pieces in their single-player campaigns.
Sometimes these have been controversial -- think having to shoot up an airport in Modern Warfare 2's infamous No Russian level -- while others have just been flat-out epic, such as the collapse of the Golden Gate Bridge in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
The "next gen" part of the listing does give us some pause, however.

We're expecting the next Call of Duty game from Infinity Ward to arrive next year after Treyarch's Black Ops IV is published this November. That would peg it for late 2019 -- and we're not currently expecting the Xbox Two or PlayStation 5 to land before 2020.
However, with the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro already out there it could be argued next generation games are already starting to creep up on us.
A publisher such as Activision and studio such as Infinity Ward could well be planning with this in mind -- and the ability to roll out what would be the current CoD game at launch for those new consoles some time in early 2020.
