PASS THE V-BUCKS

When does Fortnite season 5 start, do you need a Battle Pass and how much do they cost?

IT seems like yesterday that Fortnite season 4 reshaped the map courtesy of a giant meteorite that took out Dusty Depot back at the start of May--but it's almost time to close that chapter and start the next one.

At 9 a.m. UK time on July 12, Season 5 will officially begin, bringing with it a whole new set of challenges, rewards and the need to buy a new Battle Pass.

Yes, that's right -- if this is your first season changeover and you didn't read the really-rather-large-print you may be surprised to learn you need to splash out another 950 V-bucks, which is about £8 in real money.

This will give you access to all the Season 5 rewards, and another 10 or so weeks of challenges. We don't know what those rewards are yet, but Season 4 provided tools, outfits, gliders, 1300 V-Bucks and more.

What about my Season 4 rewards?

If you haven't earned all your rewards from your Season 4 Battle Pass yet, you'd better get cracking. Season 4 ends just before Season 5 begins -- officially at 08.59am on Monday July 12, in case you hadn't already worked that out.

If you fancy a month off or have just had enough of throwing your money at the Epic beast, you will keep all the Battle Pass items you earned in Season 4 even if you don't re-up for season 5.

Will the map be changing again?

Season 5 seems likely to be reshaping the map as season 4 did, courtesy of a Chekhov's missile that was lurking on the map's metaphorical mantelpiece.

The portentous projectile finally went off over the weekend and looked to be on its way towards Tilted Towers -- but the fan-favourite high-rise zone was saved again, with the missile bouncing off some sort of protective shield before heading back into the sky, where it exploded leaving what looks to be the start of some sort of rift.
