Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order coming from Respawn Entertainment in 2019
EA and Respawn are targeting a Christmas release of their new action-adventure Star Wars game, set between the prequels and original trilogy
THERE'S a new Star Wars action game coming out, and it will give you the chance to grab a lightsaber and fight against the forces of evil during the "dark times" between the prequel trilogy and the original movies.
It's coming from developers Respawn, who are behind the sci-fi shooter franchise Titanfall, and will be out in time for Christmas 2019, apparently.
Respawn has good pedigree -- it's the studio founded by the developers who were behind the Call of Duty franchise until their very public falling out with the game's publishers some time after Modern Warfare 2 came out.
Respawn boss Vince Zampella made a cameo appearance from the crowd during EA's pre-E3 EA Play event press conference in LA this morning to confirm that his studio was working on the game.
He said they were aiming for a "Holidays 2019" release, which is US game developer speak for mid-November.
Zampella confirmed that the game's story would be set in the "dark times" when the Jedi were being hunted down and exterminated.
Movie-wise, that means it's before the original Star Wars movie and after the three much-derided prequels.

The says it will tell the story of “a surviving Padawan set shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.” Zampella also promised the game would let the player wield lightsabers in combat.
EA and Respawn first confirmed they were working on a Star Wars action game in 2016, and that former God of War director Stig Asmussen was in charge of what was then said to be a third-person action-adventure project.
