A Battlefield take on Fortnite is coming.
Battlefield 5's developers DICE today revealed that they would be releasing their "unique take" on a mass combat battle royale mode for Battlefield "later this year".
This follows Call of Duty revealing that Black Ops IV would also feature a mass-multiplayer mode, called Blackout, like those that are front and centre in Fortnite and Player Unknown's Battlegrounds.
We don't yet know how many players it will support or how big the map will be, but we do know it won't be in the game at launch.
It won't be straight-up battle royale either, but instead it'll be objective based.
At EA's pre-E3 EA Play event, developers from DICE didn't have much more to share about the mode, but did reveal a few more things about the game in general.
The campaign will showcase "untold stories" of the "men and women" fighting World War II, with brief snippets of gameplay showing actions across all theatres from rural France up into what looked like it may well be the Himalayas.
The royale mode will take advantage of the newly revealed movable fortifications and gun emplacements that will define all the game's multiplayer modes.
Buildings that can be destroyed at will with explosives and vehicles should make for a dynamic experience, and we're looking forward to finding out more later in the year.
