THE countdown to this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo is well underway, and all the major publishers' hype machines are in full swing.
Not wanting to be left out, Sony has kicked things off with a very trippy trailer announcing The Tetris Effect, which is coming to PS4 with VR support this autumn.
The game is being developed by Enhance and Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the mind-bending brain behind cult hits Rez, Child of Eden and Lumines.
The trailer is an explosion of blocks, colours and light tied together with an electro-orchestral soundtrack -- and was entirely made with in-game assets, according to the developers.
The game will feature over 30 levels, each with "music, characters, and animations tailor-made for each level and triggered by your actions" -- and each of these levels is meant to "convey a mood, or even provoke an emotional response".
It's not just new fripperies like that either--it includes classic Tetris modes such as Marathon, Ultra and Spring, and a new time-stopping mechanic called the Zone.
The Tetris Effect will be playable at E3, so we'll report back with more details once we've got our hands on it.
Sony has thrown some more coal in the firebox of the hype train ahead of E3 2018It is the first of three totally new games the PlayStation-maker is announcing before the show, along with fresh details on two more.
Tomorrow at 4pm, meanwhile, Sony has said it's going to announce the release date for a "Worldwide Studios title". This could be any of a large number of titles in the works at many of Sony's biggest developers, as the Worldwide Studios umbrella covers everyone from Uncharted's Naughty Dog in the States to the UK's own LittleBigPlanet studio Media Molecule and Japan's Polyphony Digital--the team behind Gran Turismo.
4pm on Friday will see details of another new PS4 game released for the first time before the studio heads back to virtual reality for the weekend.
The final two days before Sony's E3 conference next Monday in LA (2am on Tuesday UK time) are being used to announce a full new PlayStation VR game and finally details of an "eagerly anticipated game" coming to PlayStation VR.
These new announcements may serve to fill the gaps left after Sony confirmed in May it was only going to be focusing on four games during its showcase at the annual gaming shindig, and wouldn't be showing off any new hardware.
Spider-Man, The Last of Us: Part II, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima will be taking centre stage during the live-streamed event, but expect a few other surprises to be thrown into the mix as well.
Sun Gaming will be in Los Angeles bringing you the latest from the event, so check back from Saturday for highlights on all the best games on show.
