Here’s why Whatsapp notifications are not showing names and how you can fix it

Unhappy users have been complaining about the problem on Twitter, with some describing it as "a new level of annoying".

One Whatsapper said: "Does anyone know how I change my whats app settings so it come up the name of person texting me but not a preview? It’s just showing this nonsense".

Another wrote: "I updated WhatsApp to version 2.18.60 and am now getting notifications without the contact name appearing!!!"

Others reached out to Whatsapp directly on social media asking for help with several have taken to Apple's support forum in the hope of a solution for iPhones.

One person wrote: ";If preview is turned on it shows both the name and the message, which I don’t want for privacy reasons.

"Any way to turn it back to the original design where only the name shows but not the message text itself?"

Thankfully there is a solution the glitch - and it's just a case of fixing your settings.

Simply open up Whatsapp and head to the settings cog, click on Notifications and then turn on "Show Preview".

Then, you'll need to go to iPhone settings > Notifications > Whatsapp > Show Previews and select "Never".

A new WhatsApp for iOS update (2.18.61) is available on AppStore and should fix the issue - although people are still reporting problems.
