Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield release date revealed, along with multiplayer info and giant Pokémon
WHEN Pokémon Let's Go was revealed last year, GameFreak promised ANOTHER new game for 2019.
That game has been revealed as Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, which are new 'core' role-playing games coming out for Nintendo Switch.
Very few details have been released but we do know it is different to its Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! titles.
This game is aimed at both new players who first played Pokémon Go and the Let's Go games, but is also meant for fans of the original titles looking for a fresh challenge.
Does the Pokemon RPG follow Sun and Moon?
It is technically a follow-up since the last games in the core series were Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Those were in turn enhanced versions of Pokemon Sun and Moon on the Nintendo 3DS.
Is this just a follow-up to the Let's Go games?
It is possible this will incorporate some of the elements of the Let's Go games, as that is currently the only example of a Pokémon game on a traditional console.
All previous versions of the main series have only come out on handhelds such as the Gameboy or Nintendo DS.
The launch trailer didn't offer many hints to gameplay, but did seem to confirm the return of random battles, with a player encountering a Pikachu while walking through some long grass.
As with Let's Go, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be coming out on Nintendo Switch, in "late 2019".
