New Pokemon ‘Core Series’ coming to Nintendo Switch in 2019 – here’s what we know

New details about the next major Pokémon game have been teased, giving fans something to look forward to

DIE-HARD Pokémon fans have a new "core" franchise game to look forward to – but the release is shrouded in mystery.

Yesterday saw The Pokémon Company announce two new Pokémon titles for casual gamers, and (more importantly) tease an unnamed Pokémon entry for 2019.

In classic Nintendo fashion, very few details were actually revealed about the game.

We originally heard word of a "core RPG Pokémon title" for the Nintendo Switch back in 2017.

The game was mooted to be developed by Game Freak, which is responsible for all the main entries into the Pokémon video game franchise.

And now a spokesperson for Game Freak has to The Verge that this game is still in development – and should launch in 2019.

It's still not clear whether the game will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive, or if it will make its way to other Nintendo handheld consoles.

We do know that this new title is entirely separate from the newly announced Pokémon Let's Go game, another RPG-style title coming to the Switch in November 2018.

What's almost guaranteed is that Pokémon 2019 will follow the very familiar format of previous Pokémon RPGs.

We're expecting a choice of starter Pokémon, a progression through gym battles, and the task of collecting as many Pokémon creatures as possible.

The new game will probably split into several different versions, like previous core Pokémon titles.

It'll be a direct sequel to Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which were released in November 2017.

Those games were themselves enhanced versions of 2016's Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Given Game Freak's typical release schedule, we'd expect the next game to arrive in November 2019.
