Playing Fortnite could make you rich as Epic Games puts up £74m in prize money

FORTNITE may already be one of the most popular competitive games on the planet, Epic Games just made Fortnite Battle Royale the biggest eSport in the world by offering £74million in prize money in just one year.

That amount dwarfs the £28million given out last year in prizes for players of Valve's Dota 2.

What will you have to do to get your hands on a slice of this enormous pie? Well, that's not clear yet.

Epic has said it will provide "more details about competitive structures and eligible platforms" in the coming weeeks.

The firm has also said that its approach to truly competitive gaming will be "different" to what gamers have seen before.

The Fortnite competitions will apparently be more "inclusive" than other tournaments, say Epic. This marks a break from other major events which have seen players , been hit with allegations of sexism and bullying, and generally been accused of fostering a toxic environment.

The Fortnite tournaments will instead be "focused on the joy of playing and watching the game", Epic said, without offering any indication what that actually meant.

While Fortnite is mostly played on consoles and desktop PCs, you can now get it for iPhone too.

Epic also revealed recently that its coming to Android devices as well, with release pencilled in for some time this summer.
