Fortnite game security advice and how to enable two-factor authentication on your Epic Games account
There's one simple way to boost security on your account -- and it won't cost you a single V-buck
YOU might think that damaging a controller after chucking it across the room is the worst thing that can happen if Fortnite goes wrong for you, but you'd be wrong.
The popularity of the game--and the huge number of things you can buy in it--mean it's a prime target for hackers and even unscrupulous players looking for a leg up without forking out.
There has been something of a spate of incidents recently, with the latest being flagged by video game law expert Ryan Morrison.
His brother by some online ne'er-do-wells and found his account overdrawn after they went on a spending spree with the cards linked to the accounts.
Thankfully there is a way to make sure you don't fall victim to this fate, as developer Epic Games has an optional security extra you can enable now -- and unlike most things in the game it won't cost you a single V-buck.
All you need to do is log in to your , choose the 'password and security' option on the left-hand side, then scroll to the bottom section marked 'two-factor sign in' and press the button marked 'Enable two-factor sign in'. If the button is greyed out, you need to verify your email address first -- but you'll almost certainly already done that at some point in the dim and distant past.
This works just like two-factor authentication for online banking, many email services, and involves a secondary code being sent to you every time you try to log in that you then need to enter to complete the process.
Epic said they were "aware of instances where users' accounts have been compromised using well-known hacking techniques."

- Don't share your account password with anyone
- Only enter your password on the official
- Don't use your Fortnite password for accounts on other websites or services
- Choose a tricky password with capital and lower-case letters, numbers and punctuation
- Don't hand over money or personal info to strangers online
- Don't let friends or family share your account
- If you've been hacked, report it via the Epic Games page.

The firm added that it is "working to resolve these issues directly with those players affected".
"Any player who believes their account has been compromised should reach out to our player support immediately."
