Shooter fans now know they only have to wait until May 23 to find out why Battlefield V means the series 'will never be the same again' thanks to some sleuthing and poor plumbing

BATTLEFIELD fans don't have long to wait to find out what the 2018 iteration of the franchise, rumoured to be called Battlefield V, will bring.

According to a teaser page on EA's website, a full announcement coming on May 23 will mean Battlefield "will never be the same again."

The teaser page itself was revealed when fans of Battlefield 1, the confusingly named current iteration of the shooter finally opened a door that had remained sealed for over a year. They then solved a puzzle behind that door, which revealed the information they were looking for.

The door marked Isolement -- solitary confinement in French -- finally popped open when a group of sleuths using the found some recently added buttons hidden throughout the fort.

The cell behind the door turned out to be full of interesting things, including an unfinished painting and a tunnel, but it turned out the most important thing was actually a set of pipes on the wall.

The drips from the pipes were actually spelling out a message in Morse code, which directed players to ea.com/neverbethesame -- which in turn revealed the May 23 reveal date.

Cunning sleuthing revealed that the pipes were leaking - and that there was a message hidden in the drops

Some have suggested that the other items in the room indicate that the series is returning to its World War 2 roots, .

Those rumours also suggested that gamers wouldn't have long to wait after the game was officially revealed to get their mitts on it. Battlefield V has been in the works at Swedish developer DICE for some time, and is still apparrently planned for release some time in 2018.

Battlefield V -- if that is indeed what the game makes it to shops as -- would be the twelfth game in the series in 16 years.
