Google Photos will soon colourise your old black and white pics using artificial intelligence
The tech giant's latest AI will analyse an image and allow you to instantly add natural-looking colour to it
YOU'LL SOON be able to turn your black and white photographs into realistic-looking coloured images with Google’s latest Photos app update.
Announced at the company’s annual Google I/O conference on Tuesday, the clever trick adds a lick of colour to old snaps using the tech giant's AI smarts.
After taking a picture of an old photograph with your phone, Google says its latest artificial intelligence tech will analyse the image and allow you to tap a button to instantly add natural-looking colour to it.
The Photos app is available on both Android and iOS, and lets you back up pictures and video automatically, free of charge.
It also provides various intelligent categorisation and organisational features, plus editing tools and photo book creation.
Google did not say when the new colourisation perk would be available within the app.
In addition to the nifty photo transformation tech, Google said there will be a whole host of other AI-based tools coming to the Photos app under , including one which will use AI to help pinpoint subjects in photos or recognise images of documents and automatically convert them to PDF files.
Another new feature will automatically suggest exposure adjustments and improvements to your photos.
Google has been adding a host of AI improvements to its apps and services as part of its announcements at I/O this week.
