The projected revenue allegedly comes from sales of virtual addons on the iPhone app.

The game – in which players create a superhero avatar and compete against each other on an island – made more than £21 million within the first 30 days of its mobile launch.

Fornite Battle Royale is a free game available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac and now iPhone too.

Although the game is free to download, it offers in-app purchases for in-game currency, and has proved phenomenally popular.

In the game, up to 100 players are dropped onto a fictional island where they are forced to battle it out in a last-person-standing death match.

To help, players can collect a range of weapons hidden all over the island.

Players can also collect resources – like wood, bricks and metal – to build defensive structures.

During game play, the battleground constantly shrinks thanks to an encroaching storm, meaning players are forced together over time, until just one person survives.

The game has been a huge hit, and is currently being trialled on iPhone.

However, only people who sign up can receive a download invitation for the iPhone game, and some players will be waiting months to get their hands on an invite.

According to Jefferies analyst Tim O´Shea, the game’s publisher Epic Games, is now worth a staggering £3.7 billion.
