A NEW GTA 5 mod that mutates the game into a battle royale epic in the vein of Fortnite has just landed.

Dubbed "Complex Control", the mod for PC tasks you with surviving waves of parachuting and driving AI enemies, with kill streaks boosting your overall score.

Sound familiar?

You're given a whopping 70 characters to choose from (with a vehicle and weapons) before the frenzied action kicks in.

Each of these avatars can be powered-up by unlocking unique special abilities, including blink teleportation, slow-motion perks, and a fierce duo of huskie guard dogs.

It all comes off as GTA 5 with loads of cheats enabled and enemies at every turn.

And the rollicking action just keeps going...until you get killed.

Complex Control features perma-death, so when you die, you stay dead for good – or at least until you start afresh with a new character.

The ultimate goal is to stay alive until an exit zone opens up, at which point you'll be able to win the run and save your progress.

Grand Theft Auto 5 modder Theaetik says their project mixes roguelite and battle royale elements with "something new to experience every run".

For the uninitiated, a mod (short for "modification") is a tweak to an existing PC game that ups its replay value with new gameplay mechanics.

The modding community is extremely active online, with free downloads emerging all the time, some of which can completely change the face of a game.

You can find full details on how to download and install Complex Control on the GTA V mods .

But, as with any mod, it's recommended to tread with caution.

Rockstar previously took a stab at battle royale with the release of a Motor Wars mode for GTA Online in August, as part of the Smuggler's Run update.

That put the focus on vehicular combat (inside armoured trucks with attached turrets) and was described as a "a tense battle for survival, where teams race against the clock to locate weaponised vehicles and hunt down opponents inside an ever-shrinking kill box.”
