ASIDE from being a game of the year contender, GOD OF WAR is also crushing it on the sales charts.
Released April 20, it sold 3.1million units in just three days to become the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive ever, according to Sony.
Comparably, the current best-selling PS4 title of all time is Uncharted 4, with 2.7 million copies sold in its first week and 8.7 million in total sales.
In second place on the all-time PS4 sales list is Horizon: Zero Dawn, wich has flogged 7.6 million games since its release in 2017.
But God of War's stellar start could see it leapfrog both those excellent exclusives to the top of the leaderboard.
The latest instalment in the action-adventure series, God of War shifts its backdrop from ancient Greece and into Norse mythology.
That, of course, brings with it an exciting new legion of creatures, monsters and raging deities for players to defeat.
But while the blistering action remains, the storyline is more sensitive this time round, featuring a father-son relationship between returning protagonist Kratos and his young child Atreus.
Since the game is developed by Sony's Santa Monica Studio, it's only available on the PlayStation 4 – meaning Xbox owners are missing out.
There are three special editions of the game, in addition to the standard base version: Stone Mason Edition, Collector's Edition, and Digital Deluxe Edition.
These come with various bundled extras, like carvings, in-game skins and art-books depending on which one you buy.
And video game critics love it.
The game's been described as a console-defining title and one of the best of this generation – high praise indeed for the eighth instalment in a long-running franchise.
It now ranks as the highest-rated game in the God of War series, and it's got its sights set on even more milestones yet.
