Any new or existing customers will be able to download the app today – and play music completely free of charge.

You can access a library of more than 35million songs and playlists straight from the Sky Q homepage.

And there's absolutely no charge for listening to Spotify on Sky Q.

Better still, Spotify recently upgraded its free service so that you can choose the songs you want to hear from a selection of 15 playlists.

Any other tracks can only be heard by shuffling playlists or albums.

If you pay £9.99 a month for Spotify Premium though, you'll be able to pick any song you like.

Stephen van Rooyen, Chief Executive, UK and Ireland, Sky, added: "The arrival of the world’s biggest and most popular music streaming service is a great addition to the platform.

"It will allow TV buffs and music fans to switch between their favourite shows, online video apps and music in an instant."

Sky is also making a number of other changes to Sky Q, including adding personalised recommendations to voice functionality.

So you'll be able to say "show movies for me" and see a list of films that you're actually likely to enjoy.

The Sports section will also be personalised to reflect your favourite sports and teams.

And Sky Q is adding support for High Dynamic Range, or HDR, content.

HDR TV shows and movies have improved contrast (so brighter whites and darker blacks) and a wider range of colours.

Lots of popular services already provide HDR content, including Netflix, Amazon Video and YouTube.
