Mark Zuckerberg told Congress that his own data was obtained by Cambridge Analytica amid his platform's latest breach.

The Facebook founder made the revelation in response to a tough round of questioning from Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, who represents Silicon Valley (where Facebook is based).

Esho said: "Was your data included in the data sold to the malicious third parties? Your personal data?”

To which Zuckerberg replied "yes".

The 33-year-old tech mogul was on Capitol Hill to face a second day of grilling from US lawmakers over the data leak scandal which saw 87 million users — including 1 million Brits — have their personal info harvested.

The public profile info was snatched by a rogue personality quiz app created by UK-based academic Aleksandr Kogan, who then flogged it to Trump-affiliated firm Cambridge Analytica.

Earlier this week, Facebook began notifying millions of users that their personal data had been compromised.

The swiped info included phone numbers, email addresses, religious and political leanings, and (in the case of 1,500 users) private messages.

Zuckerberg was also asked if Facebook was planning legal action against Kogan or Cambridge Analytica.

He responded "we're looking into it".

In addition, Representative Frank Pallone pushed Zuckerberg to commit to changing Facbeook's default user settings to minimise data collection "to the greatest extent possible".

But the Facebook chief didn't budge, stating that it's a "complex issue that deserves more than a one-word answer.”

“That’s disappointing to me,” Pallone replied.

The hearing is still underway, and could last as long as yesterday's round, which ran for a marathon four hours.
