Gamers want Fortnite Durrr Burger restaurant BANNED for ‘mocking people with disabilities’
FORTNITE players angered by an in-game restaurant they claim mocks people with disabilities have started a petition calling on developer Epic Games to remove it.
And a top UK charity told The Sun that it's "disappointed" by the virtual location's "offensive imagery".
"Durrr Burger" is a fictional fast food joint that can be seen in the hit game's urban zones.
It also features heavily in the Fortnite Save the World launch from July 2017, back when it was just a zombie survival game, and before the release of the massively popular Battle Royale mode.
It's the word "durrr" and the restaurant's logo (a burger with its tongue poking out) that the offended gamers have a problem with.
They claim the term is used as an insult aimed at disabled people online, and that the imagery only compounds the problem further.
"Not only is the title of the establishment offensive, but the logo (a burger that is portrayed to look "ignorant" by having its tongue sticking out and eyes skewed in opposite directions) is as well.
"This grotesque image contributes to and further perpetuates stereotypes that people have for people with disabilities."
At the time of writing, the petition had gained 411 signatures out of its goal of 500.
We've reached out to Epic Games and will update this article with its response.
