This creepy new app lets your WhatsApp mates spy on you

ChatWatch is a controversial new app that can tell your buddies or your partner when you log on to WhatsApp and who you've been chatting to

YOU KNOW that status feature on WhatsApp that lets people know when you're online? A creepy new app called ChatWatch is using it to let your mates spy on you.

And there's nothing you can do to stop it, because that info is public – even disabling the "Last Seen" feature in your account settings won't help.

, which is available now for Android, also tells users how often their friends check the app, and estimates when they go to bed, according to .

It can also combine WhatsApp data from two of your mates to figure out if they've been talking to each other.

Now that's downright invasive.

But all that info doesn't come for free. The app will cost you $2 per week to snoop on a pair of friends.

And you can fork out more to monitor up to ten people at a time.

‘Find out when they went to bed, how long they slept, even compare chat patterns between people you know, and we will tell you the probability of them talking to each other during the day, using artificial intelligence,’ the app writes on its website.

We haven't tried it out, so we can't say for sure if it works.

But it's currently got a measly 1.5 stars out of five on the Google Play Store after eight reviews, with people calling it a "fake prank" and a "fraud".

It's also been pulled from the Apple Store, according to its website, for "reasons unknown to us".

"We are working on a web version to launch tomorrow," reads the message.

We've reached out to Apple for confirmation, and will update this article if they respond.

It all sounds frankly dodgy, so tread carefully.
