Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: Remastered release date on the way as game is confirmed
GAMERS have been calling for a Modern Warfare 2 Remastered game for years – and it looks like they're finally getting one.
PEGI has rated a remaster of the game's controversial campaign, indicating it is going to be here very soon indeed.
Modern Warfare 2 Remaster news – what is it?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was a first-person shooter game that arrived back on November 10, 2009.
It was the sixth Call of Duty game, and remains one of the most popular entries to date.
Infinity Ward released the game on Windows, PS3 and Xbox 360 – but it could be landing on newer consoles very soon.
Rumour has it that publisher Activision has a Modern Warfare 2 remaster in the works, which could bring the old game up-to-date with new-gen graphics.
That might pass some time while we wait for Infinity Ward's new 2019 Call of Duty game...
Modern Warfare 2 Remastered rumours – what's the latest?
The PEGI rating wasn't the first we'd heard of a possible MW2 remaster.
Last year game site IGN spotted listings for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered on Amazon Italy.
The game was "available" for both Xbox One and PS4, although there was no purchase option.
It listed a release date of April 30 2018, but that came and went without so much as a peep from the publisher.
Rumours suggest that the game won't feature multiplayer, but only feature the single-player campaign, which means the game will almost certainly include the controversial No Russian mission.
The fourth mission in the game tasked players with gunning down hundreds of civilians in an airport as part of a false-flag operation.
The mission sparked huge controversy at the time of the original game, even though developers offered gamers an opportunity to skip the mission – or complete it without firing a single bullet.
Modern Warfare 2 Remaster release date leaks – when is it out?
The game hasn't been formally announced, so it's hard to know exactly when the game will land.
It has been suggested that the remaster of Modern Warfare 2 might not come out until the end of NEXT year, to coincide with Infinity Ward's next full entry in the franchise.
This would marry up with their release or Modern Warfare Remastered, which was released alongside 2016's Infinite Warfare, as part of a Deluxe edition.
It was also released as a standalone game in June the following year
Given the remake's popularity, it's likely that Activision will be considering a brand new title reboot from the Call of Duty franchise.
It's also worth noting that 2019 marks the 10th anniversary since the release of Modern Warfare 2 – so getting a reboot out ahead of that would give gamers a great way to celebrate on the day.
