Twitter boss says BITCOIN will be world’s ‘single currency’ by 2028

Twitter boss Jack Dorsey thinks real cash will soon go kaput and be replaced with Bitcoin

ANOTHER Silicon Valley big wig thinks we'll all soon ditch real cash for Bitcoin.

Twitter boss Jack Dorsey claims the virtual currency will be the only form of money in around ten years time.

"The world ultimately will have a single currency, the internet will have a single currency. I personally believe that it will be bitcoin," Dorsey told .

It would happen "probably over ten years, but it could go faster".

That's an ambitious timeline, even considering the recent hype around Bitcoin.

The virtual currency drew a lot of eyeballs last year, with the world watching as its price wildly fluctuated.

At its peak it rose to more than $19,000 (£13,487) in December, only to plummet within minutes.

Bitcoin mania even saw some people for a slice of the action.

At the time of writing Bitcoin's price was sitting at $8,559 (£6,075).

But there's a reason Dorsey is so keen on digital cash.

In addition to serving as top dog at Twitter, he's also the CEO of Square, a payments company that recently added the option to buy and sell Bitcoin directly from its app.

"We support Bitcoin because we see it as a long-term path towards greater financial access for all," Dorsey said in a tweet, upon the launch of the feature.

The billionaire computer programmer also owns an unspecified amount of the virtual currency – as does Elon Musk and Sir Richard Branson.

Do you think Bitcoin will replace real cash in ten years time? Or is it just a fad? Let us know in the comments.
