Xbox gamers can win £80,000 worth of golden bananas by solving 15 riddles
If you've ever wanted to win some proper pirate booty (who hasn't?), this real-world quest is perfect for you
XBOX has launched a global treasure hunt to track down four golden bananas worth £20,000 each.
The stunt is being used to promote pirate game Sea of Thieves, and could see gamers cashing in – if they can track down the rare fruit.
The real-world treasure hunt is set up like a quest, and will task players with solving 15 clues, in the form of riddles.
Xbox's first clue went up earlier today (Monday, March 19, and you can check it out ).
Once you work out the answers to the clues, you can input them at the official Banana Quest starting from 9pm on Wednesday.
Teams will have just seven hours to submit their answers after the final clue is released.
The winners will plunder a grand prize of a bunch of four genuine golden bananas.
The bananas have been created by goldsmiths Smith & Harris, from London's famous Hatton Garden jewellery quarter.
The National Association of Jewellers called it "a very unusual commission".
It added: "Due to this level of craftsmanship involved and the uniqueness of the golden bananas, we expect them to be [worth] at least £20,000 per banana."
But it won't be easy to obtain the bananas.
You'll be up against a global cohort of loot-hungry pirates, with six countries competing for the golden goods: the UK, USA, Australia, France, Germany and Canada.
The grand finale takes place on Thursday and Friday (depending on your time zone), with the most cunning crew from each country tasked with solving one final riddle to win the booty.
It's all in aid of promoting Sea of Thieves, a new pirate-themed game designed exclusively for Xbox and Windows PC.
The game is available on Tuesday, March 20 – and requires zero golden bananas to play.
