Why does Amazon Alexa laugh and can you stop the Echo Dot from doing it?
The shopping giant has assured users they are working on a fix to stop the random and spontaneous laughter
AMAZON’S Alexa has promised to fix a bug which is causing the personal assistant device to make “evil” laughing noises.
The shopping giant has assured users they are working on a fix to stop the random and spontaneous laughter.
Why is Amazon Alexa laughing?
An Amazon spokesperson told the Verge website they were aware of the glitch and were trying to find a solution to the problem.
In a statement they said: “In rare circumstances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase 'Alexa, laugh.”
“We are changing that phrase to be 'Alexa, can you laugh?' which is less likely to have false positives, and we are disabling the short utterance 'Alexa, laugh'.
“We are also changing Alexa’s response from simply laughter to 'Sure, I can laugh' followed by laughter.”
How do you stop the creepy laugh?
Amazon has said the reason why the device is laughing is because it mishears “Alexa laugh”.
The technology and shopping giant said they will disable the feature to ensure there is no more random laughter.
But if you are seriously creeped out by it - you could unplug the device until Amazon releases the fix for the glitch.
People even took to Twitter to complain one user said: “Lying in bed about to fall asleep when Alexa on my Amazon Echo Dot lets out a very loud and creepy laugh... there’s a good chance I get murdered tonight.”
