AVOGO HEROES

Six teenagers have invented kitchen gadget Avogo to beat ‘avocado hand’ — and it costs £10

Team of boys from Brighton College have won a place in the Design Museum with their ingenious gadget

SIX teenage boys have invented a gadget to beat “avocado hand” injuries that is set to go on sale.

They built the Avogo, which slices and de-stones the pear, for a design contest after one of them, Shiven Patel, hurt himself cutting one.

HOW DO YOU USE THE AVOGO?

Step 1

Hold fruit sideways and insert hook into top of the avocado piercing the skin and flesh.

Step 2

Pull through the flesh around the circumference of the fruit until you have joined both ends.

Step 3

Prise the two cut halves apart and spear the hard stone with the hook of the Avogo.

Step 4

Pull away from the body to avoid injury, dispose of the stone and enjoy fruits of your labour.

His parents began to use the pewter tool and it won the London Design Museum first prize.

The Brighton College kids — Pietro Pignatti, Morano Campori, Seth Rickard, Felix Winstanley, and Shiven, all 14, and Matias Paz Linares, 13, now aim to raise funds for charity by making 250, selling at £10 each.

Shiven said: “My cut helped.” The Avogo uses a hook to slice the pear and spear the stone. One London hospital treats four people a week for avocado-related injuries.
