What do the Snapchat emojis mean?

Snapchat has evolved from just a photo-sharing app.

It has become another platform for users to view content from their favourite influencers and celebrities by subscribing to their stories.

There is also Snapchat Discover which acts as a news feed. In the feed, you can find daily content and news publishers such as The Sun.

Instead of the best friends list, the emojis now represent your relationship with your friends and acquaintances on Snapchat.

Yellow Heart

13

Besties: This appears next to a friend's name when you become each other's best friends. This is usually the person you have sent the most snaps to, and they sent the most snaps to you too.

Red Heart

13

BFF: You and your best friend upgrade to a red heart when you and another user have been each others best friends for at least two weeks in a row.

Pink Hearts

13

SUPER BFF: This is for the top tier besties. You get the double pink hearts when you and another user have been each others best friends for at least two months in a row.

Smiling Face

13

BFs: This appears next to someone you send a lot of snaps to, but they are one of your best friends but not your number one best friend.

Face With Sunglasses

13

MUTUAL BFs: Now this emoji is for those nosey snapchatters. You will see this emoji appear next to someone you share a best friend with. This just means that you send a lot of snaps to the same person they also send a lot of snaps to.

Grimacing Face

13

MUTUAL BESTIES: You will only see this emoji appear next to someone when your number one bestie is also their number one bestie.

There are also some extra emojis that you may see on your friends list after some time on the app.

Gold Star

13

This is shown next to a friends' name when they have replayed your snaps in the past 24 hours.

Fire

13

If you see this next to a friend's name it means you are on a snap streak. The emoji appears next to the number of days you and your friend have been sending snaps back and forth.

Hundred

13

Congratulations! This means you have maintained a snap streak with a friend for 100 consecutive days. The 100 emoji will replace the fire emoji on the 100th day.

Hourglass

13

Quick! If the hourglass appears it means your snapstreak is about to end. If you snap your friend before the 24 hours are up then the snapstreak remains.

Birthday Cake

13

Happy Birthday! Pretty straight forward emoji.

13

If you pin a friends' chat to the top of your feed, the pushpin emoji appears. You can pin individual users or group conversations. Most use this emoji to keep track of their most important conversations.

Are Snapchat emojis different on an iPhone and Android phone?

The emojis are the same for each operating system unless you edit them.

All emojis are set by Unicode to standardise the emojis that everyone uses no matter the platform.

They might look slightly different but the emoji meaning will be the same no matter what device you use.
