THE recent Snapchat update changed the design of the app and has proved seriously divisive.

So how do you get the old interface back and is there a petition? Here's the lowdown.

How do I get the old Snapchat back after the update?

Users who hate the new design are desperately seeking workarounds to avoid the update.
One of the simplest ways is to simply turn off app auto-updates on your smartphone, but this only works if the update hasn't already been installed.

It's also possible to download older versions of the app on Android, and some users are using VPNs (or virtual proxy networks) to trick the app into showing an older design.

But Snapchat's Twitter support account is warning that this shouldn't be done.

For iOS users, you can try deleting the app on your iPhone and then connecting it to your computer.

The open iTunes and select your device and, without syncing your phone, click the Applications tab.

Find Snapchat on the list and then select the option ";install" - then sync your device.

The old version you have on iTubes should copy back to your phone.

What's the petition to roll Snapchat back?

A  petition set up by Australian Snapchat fan Nic Rumsey aims to roll back the update, and was signed by over 960,000 at the time of writing.

Nic said: "With the release of the new Snapchat update, many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use, but has in fact made many features more difficult.

"There is a general level of annoyance among users, and many have decided to use a VPN app to go back to the old Snapchat, as that's how annoying this new update has become.

"Many 'new features' are useless or defeat the original purposes Snapchat has had for the past years."

"This petition aims to help convince Snap Inc. to change the app back to the basics, before this new 2018 update."
