ON the prowl for the best Xbox games for your new Xbox One console?
We've tracked down the top Xbox games in 2018 – from loads of different genres – so you don't have to waste any more time looking for something new to play.
Battlefield 1
Genre: First-person shooter
EA's Battlefield 1 has one of the best campaigns ever created for a shooter, which is reason enough to play it.
Set in World War 1, this incredibly realistic title will hook you with the chapterised story mode, and keep you coming back for more thanks to an engaging and ever-expanding multiplayer.
Forza Motorsport 7
Genre: Racing
The tenth installment in the Forza series is one of the best, featuring over 700 cars and more than 200 different track configurations available across 32 locations.
Perks in this lifelike racing game include dynamic weather and customisable drivers – both of which are new additions to the series.
DOOM
Genre: First-person shooter
This reboot of the original Doom franchise is as gruesome as you'd expect, and proves that keeping things simple – like destroying hellspawn with huge guns and a chainsaw – works.
The graphics are fantastic, and the campaign is action-packed and gripping throughout – with a solid multiplayer to boot.
Destiny 2
Genre: First-person shooter
Don't let the fact that Destiny 2 is online-only put you off – this is one of the best console shooters we've seen in years.
Set in a sci-fi future, Destiny ditches comparisons to Halo with its RPG-style gameplay and epic mutliplayer raid combat. Unmissable for any Xbox owner.
Stardew Valley
Genre: Indie farming sim
A farming simulator doesn't sound too exciting, and yet somehow Stardew Valley manages to be quirky, addictive, and altogether beautiful.
The game sees you ditch an office job to take over your grandad's fast-fading farm with the goal of restoring it – and it's satisfying as hell.
Tekken 7
Genre: Fighting
Tekken needs no introduction – the legendary hit fighter has a brand new edition that rocks a solid fighting system and impressive graphics.
You'll waste away hours beating your mates to a pulp with classic fighters like Marshall Law, Nina Williams, and Yoshimitsu.
Fifa 18
Genre: Football simulation
Fifa 18 gets an honorary mention on this list, because if you're a big footie fan then you've probably already got it.
If you're still weighing up whether to upgrade to the latest game, note that this is the most refined Fifa yet, and features a host of new features and players – well worth the money.
Assassin's Creed Origins
Genre: Action adventure
The latest Assassin's Creed game sees players take charge of protagonist Bayek in ancient Egypt, around 49-47BC.
Expect sweeping sandy vistas, brutal aerial kills, and more political intrigue than you can shake a sword at.
Call of Duty WW2
Genre: First-person shooter
Call of Duty games are generally regarded as a must-have for any console, and Call of Duty WW2 reminds us why.
This fast-paced shooter returns to the bloody conflict of 1939 to 1945 in renewed form, offering up a stunningly attractive campaign and an endlessly replayable multiplayer mode. Oh, and don't forget zombies...
Middle-earth: Shadow of War
Genre: Action RPG
Shadow of War is set in Tolkein's vast, fantastical universe, falling between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
This action classic lets you slaughter baddies across the epic landscapes of Middle-earth with guts and gore galore.
Halo 5: Guardians
Genre: First-person shooter
This Microsoft exclusive is one of the most popular Xbox games to date, and with good reason.
Players once again take up sci-fi arms as space-age super soldier Master Chief, blasting alien villains across the universe – or stomping mates in the top-notch multiplayer mode, if you'd prefer.
Dark Souls 3
Genre: Action RPG
Dark Souls 3 is the latest in a series of brutally difficult games that will test the limits of your patience.
But beat this brooding and incredibly rewarding action RPG and you'll be in a good mood for weeks.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Genre: Action RPG
Arguably the perfect fantasy RPG, and undoubtedly one of the best games ever made, The Witcher 3 has the potential to convert even the most ardent RPG naysayer.
Players control the impossibly likeable Geralt of Rivia, who explores a vast open world looking for monsters to slay – all while tracking down his adopter daughter, who also happens to be a medieval superhero. Buy this right now, folks.
Overwatch
Genre: First-person shooter
This colourful team-based shooter is one of our favourite multiplayer games, and will give you months of fun.
Made by gaming giant Blizzard, Overwatch lets you choose from a wide selection of heroes that each have unique abilities and traits, with the goal of beating an enemy team of real players in quirky game modes. Well worth the money.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Genre: Survival horror
Not for the faint of heart, Resident Evil 7 ditches the explosive action of previous games for a slower, suspenseful story with a focus on exploration.
The setting is creepy. The story is creepy. Everything about this game is creepy – and it's made more terrifying by the optional PlayStation VR virtual reality mode.
