A long-awaited return to the God of War franchise is finally here, and we've got all the details about what to expect
GOOD news, God of War fans – a new game from the franchise is here, and it's a console exclusive.
And the game's creators revealed it's longer than the other franchise entries so far. Here's everything we know...
God of War is an acclaimed hack-and-slash video game franchise from Sony's Santa Monica Studio.
The 2018 entry to the series is simply called God of War, and lands as the eighth instalment overall.
It's a direct sequel to 2010's God of War III, and is generally seen as a soft reboot for the franchise.
What's exciting about God of War 4 is that it moves on from its traditional Greek mythology into a new Norse setting.
Series protagonist Kratos is staying on as the protagonist, although he's also got a son called Atreus in this game too.
The game picks up years after Kratos sought his revenge against the Olympian gods.
Kratos now lives in a savage land inhabited by Norse gods, and is attempting to teach his son how to survive and thrive in a dangerous world.
In April, God of War director Cory Barlog revealed it took a Santa Monica Games designer 43 hours to get 100 per cent completion on the game.
According to the How Long to Beat game length tracker, the original 2005 God of War game took just 12.5 hours to complete.
God of War has a slightly longer 13-hour completion time, while God of War 3 was the biggest to date, taking 17 hours to finish.
So it's good news – you'll be getting more bang for your buck from the latest game than any God of War title before.
In January, Sony confirmed that God of War 4 would go on sale on April 20, 2018 – so it's out now!
Since the game is being developed by Sony, it's only available on the PlayStation 4 – meaning Xbox owners will miss out.
There are three special editions of the game, in addition to the standard base version: Stone Mason Edition, Collector's Edition, and Digital Deluxe Edition.
These come with various bundled extras, like carvings, in-game skins and art-books depending on which one you buy.
Reviews came early for the new game and were universally positive.
GameSpot came it 9/10, describing it as "epic" while IGN gave it 10/10.
